CBSE Class 10 Board Exams to Be Held Twice: What It Means for Students

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a significant change starting from the 2025–26 academic session: Class 10 board exams will now be conducted twice a year. This decision, inspired by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to reduce stress and provide students with multiple opportunities to perform their best.

Earlier, students had only one shot at board exams. If anything went wrong—be it illness, anxiety, or simply a bad day—it affected their final result. But with the two-time exam system, students can appear for the board exams in both sessions, and their best score will be counted.

This change encourages a shift from rote learning to a more thoughtful, conceptual approach. Since the pressure of “one chance only” is reduced, students may take more interest in understanding topics deeply rather than just memorizing them.

However, this also means that students need to be more consistent throughout the year. Schools will have to adjust their academic calendars, and teachers will need to complete the syllabus faster so students are well-prepared for both exams.

One concern is that students may feel pressured to appear twice. But CBSE has clarified that appearing in both sessions is optional. If a student is satisfied with their performance in the first attempt, they need not appear again.

In conclusion, the two-time board exam system for Class 10 is a student-friendly reform that provides flexibility, reduces exam fear, and gives a fairer evaluation. It may take time to adjust, but it’s a step in the right direction toward a more balanced education system. Students should embrace this change with an open mind and prepare smartly to make the most of this opportunity.
